Copy protection: Dismally ineffectual

The yutzes who tried to sue some kid for mentioning the existence of the shift key are still collecting money for their snake oil. The latest Black Rebel Motorcycle Club album is protected (hah!) by SunComm’s stuff.

In their defense, there actually IS some Mac code on it. It just doesn’t seem to have any noticable effect; iTunes cheerfully rips the songs without complaint.

Needless to say, it also works fine under Unix, giving us a practical workaround for everybody: Get a Unix machine (NetBSD will do fine) and use it to rip your albums.

What pathos. Copy protection is impractical and it’s a fundamentally bad and dishonest idea.
