Summary: Followup-To: Distribution: Organization: Digital Solutions Internet Consulting (612) 488 1740 Keywords: Cc: Taking a cue from Microsoft, video game giant Nintendo announced today that they are CANCELLING the "Ultra 64" system. Instead, they are releasing a much more powerful, 96-bit system, in early 1996 - allowing them to name the system "Virtua 96". The name is an attempt to retroactively get the profits from Sega's successful "Virtua Everything" series. The V96 is expected to offer a lot of previously unheard of features, including: 1. Copy protection - every game will come with a unique ID chip, which is burned in when the game is first run, to match the ID of the console. This will cut down dramatically on used game sales and other piracy. 2. The V96 will not provide an RF out. The signals simply wouldn't survive being toned down that far. Instead, it will provide digital RGB signals - a must for the true gaming enthusiast. 3. A new sound processor, tentatively called "Jerry", will provide life-like digital audio. To save on the huge costs of sampled sounds, the system will ship with every sound effect it will ever need in ROM! 4. A new video processor, tentatively called "Speedy Gonzales" will put images onto the screen at an amazing rate, using a technique Nintendo calls "blast processing". They expect to be able to get an average of 70 fps on a game similar in complexity to DOOM. 5. To end the pad vs. joystick debate once and for all, the V96 ships with controllers that have pads, but with optional suction-cup joysticks for them. 6. Up to three players at once! The V96 will have *three* controller ports - 150% more than Sega, their primary competitor, and *three times as many ports* as the 3DO system. 7. The main processor will be a specially modified Pentium. The modified Pentium has had the entire floating point unit removed, both to enhance accuracy and to make the chip cheaper. Additionally, they have replaced the Pentium's native logic with 8086 logic, to make it *BURN* at 100 Mhz. As you can see, this will be the MOST POWERFUL SYSTEM EVER CONCEIVED OF! There's no point in buying game machines now; next year, it will be here. Virtua '96. Available from fine vaporstores everywhere. Happy Holidays. -s
