From: seebs@plethora.net (Peter Seebach) Subject: FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: BSDI adds "NT-class" performance in 4.0! Date: 1998/04/01 Message-ID: <199804020028.SAA24298@guild.plethora.net>#1/1 Approved: usenet@uiuc.edu X-Info: posted by Newsbot 1.3! via usenet@uiuc.edu Organization: University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign Newsgroups: info.bsdi.users The latest release of BSDI's Internet Server 4.0 isn't out, but when it is, it will be able to perform comparably to Windows NT, said an anonymous BSDI spokesman. "We've finally found a way to tune most PC's so that BSD/OS gets the kind of performance users of Windows NT are used to," he explained. Apparently, most microcomputers have a "cache", which can dramatically affect the system's performance. If this "cache" is disabled, BSD/OS can achieve performance previously limited to users of Microsoft's flagship O/S.
