Wow. I mean, just wow.

A friend of mine got what may be the worst Christmas presents I’ve ever heard of.

A coathanger, and a bar of hotel soap.

I am not making this up.

Why even bother? I mean, at this point, wouldn’t it be kinder to just give a card? If you’re not going to put any thought into a gift, a gift certificate might work. But… A coathanger? And a bar of hotel soap? A bar of hotel soap isn’t a present. It’s not even like a present.

I mean, I think we’d generally give better stuff to strangers who showed up unannounced at our parties than this person got from her relatives.

  1. hmm...seebs, if the relative spend $$ and participated in the Capitalist scheme, then it would have been more "thoughtful"?

I agree it seems a little ... uncharming, but somehow it sits better with me than any commercialized products, especially the ones made specifically for Christmas.

But then I didn't get anything this Christmas, not even a lump of coal! So it could be that I am just bitter :(

  2. Maybe it's the modern equivilent of coal.

  3. Regarding the 'Capitalist Scheme' -- there's a difference between being DIY, and giving people your garbage. I very much doubt those 'gifts' were politically motivated. They sound like a deliberate insult, to me.
